Job Description

This is a position for an engineering manager to lead the organization as an engineering manager in cooperation with the CTO and product owner in an engineering organization that is responsible for the creation of products that are the foundation of the company.

【Business Overview】
In a nutshell, we are a tech company that provides "Legalscape," a product that is the legal version of Google. Legalscape was created to digitize all legal information and convert it from PDFs and other formats into a machine-readable form, making it easy for anyone dealing with Japanese law to understand and see at a glance. Legalscape has already been adopted by major law firms and the legal departments of major corporations that are well known to everyone, and we are now planning a strategy for further growth.
In addition to further updating and increasing the number of users of "Legalscape," which is our main business pillar, we are also launching new projects focusing on the legal field that will become our second and third pillars.

【Recruitment Background / Mission】
We are currently a team of CTO, product owner, and 5 engineers, but as the number of product team members increases due to rapid business growth, we are looking to create an organization where engineers can perform at their best.
This is an EM (Engineering Manager) position where you will be responsible for project management, people management, engineer recruitment, and development process design and improvement.

【Specifically】
・People management: Assessing the status of product team members, improvement activities, setting goals for individual engineers, providing feedback, and designing and operating the evaluation system (mainly handled by the EM).
・Development resource management: Allocate development resources appropriately according to priorities (EM is mainly in charge of this, in cooperation with the product owner).
・Project management: Progress management of development projects (EM is mainly responsible for this in cooperation with the product owner)
・Recruitment of engineers (mainly handled by HR and EM, with CTO, PO, and others as needed) (mainly by HR and EM, with CTO, PO, and other engineers participating in interviews as appropriate)
・Other tasks that are not required, but would be appreciated if possible
・Improvement of development process, etc. (mainly handled by EM in cooperation with CTO)
・Training of engineers (career development, technical skill improvement support, etc.)

Required Skills and Experiences

■Required ・Strong communication and documentation skills ・Experience as an EM, Engineer, PdM, PjM or similar position on a web application development team (5+ years) ・1+ years of experience as an EM on a web application development team ・Experience managing 5 or more people on a development team ・Experience contributing to the performance improvement of an engineering organization by leading the hiring, evaluation, and goal setting of engineers, providing feedback to engineers, etc. ■Preferred ・Experience in expanding an engineering organization under your jurisdiction (from 5 to about 20 engineers) ・Experience working to improve the productivity of development teams (Scrum Master, various types of automation, etc.) ・Experience in training engineers (career development, technical skill improvement support, etc.) ■Ideal Applicants ・Those who "set their own issues, involve others, and solve them" rather than "perform tasks. ・Those who are able to set their own agenda for the business issues in front of them with free thinking, without being restricted by their own business domain. ・Those who share our mission of organizing legal information that is relevant to everyone in Japan, and who want to work together to create a service that will become the infrastructure of a nation governed by the rule of law that will last for 10, 20, or more years.

Full flex time
Come to work 1-2 times a week, work remotely 3-4 times a week
